Den Saakaldte – Kapittel II: Faen I Helvete

7/10 – Review by Luke Hayhurst

“Kapittel II: Faen I Helvete” is the sophomore album release from Norwegian black metal sextet Den Saakaldte, a long way away from their humble beginnings as a one man project!

Released through Agonia Records, “Kapittel II: Faen I Helvete” gets under way with “Din Siste Dag” (all tracks are in Norwegian) and sees the band use a traditional method of ravenous, cold riffs and grim abrasive vocals but mix it with a melody rich sound filled with rhythm and groove so that you can get feel the music more than black metals usual blast beat fest!

Indeed at times the bands intensive sound has a rather grand feel too it and despite the bleakness of the genre as a whole and the savagery that Den Saakaldte still possess, their music often feels quite uplifting which may say more about me than them! Either way “Kapittel II: Faen I Helvete” is an impressive album, featuring moments of peaceful, sombre reflection to temper the bands angry, hostile sound.

Highly recommended.
