Neige Et Noirceur – “Gouffre Onirique et Abîmes Cosmiques”
Canadian Ambient Black/Drone Doom Metal
Sepulchral Productions – 28/03/2014
Neige Et Noirceur are becoming regulars on the Destructive Music site and this year’s offering will take pride of place if their recordings from recent years are anything to go by. As mentioned in my last review, this is a Canadian one man project that combines ambient black metal with drone doom so as you can imagine, darkness very much the order of the day! “Gouffre Onirique et Abîmes Cosmiques” is Zifond’s fourth studio album and Sepulchral Productions have the honour of putting it out there!
It’s an album that doesn’t disappoint! Right from the start this blend of strained, grim black metal vocals, droning drawn out melodies and tones and moody brooding darkened passages hits the spot! At times there is a fury to the cold, metallic riffs or the despairing, hostile vocals. At other times its simply all about the rhythms and melodies, the swirling bleakness and undulating nocturnal depressions!
There are times during this album of genuine black metal brutality and others of almost peaceful ambient twilight! Whatever your vibe though when it comes to thought provoking dark metal, Neige Et Noirceur I’m sure will appeal!
