SYSTEM OF VENUS | SYSTEM OF VENUS [AUSTRALIAN STONER DOOM] REVIEW BY LUKE HAYHURST

cover (3)

Hailing from Melbourne in southern Australia comes a new stoner doom project, the brainchild of Fatima Basic entitled System of Venus. Sporting eye catching artwork, this debut self titled album begins with Blackrock and never looks back. Easily one of the catchiest, most flowing doom releases of recent times, System of Venus is pure riff worship combined with superb haunting, clean female vocals that suit the style perfectly. System of Venus for the most part is a bass heavy fast paced stoner doom monolith, celebrating all things down tuned and fuzzed up by throwing out deliciously hook laden leads, whopping guitar solos and all topped off by beautiful vocal work and a truly southern rock style drawling finish!

It isn’t all fly away pace though as the crushingly heavy and slowed down tones of Monster Ego will readily testify too. System of Venus are easily capable of bringing the pace right down to ground level yet increasing the albums intensity with some well times blues drenched doom rock that highlights the lyrical diversity as well as the bands ability to keep their sound varied!

A stunning, enjoyable piece of thought provoking doom from down under and one of the more atmospheric stoner doom opus’s for quite a while!
