DAYS OF LOSS | OUR FRAIL EXISTENCE [AUSTRIAN DEATH/THRASH] REVIEW BY LUKE HAYHURST

dolweb

After a gap of five years from their debut album Life is Decay, Austrian death/thrash have returned with a similarly themed second opus entitled Our Frail Existence.

From the name of the band to their album titles, its clear that futility and abhorrence are very much powerful moods within the Days of Loss camp. Opening with an instrumental and melodic prelude, a calm before the storm if you will, Days of Loss soon let loose with their core sound of guttural vocalled deeply melodic yet ultimately heavy and unforgiving riffs and drumming. Days of Loss have a superbly catchy sound that oscillates between rampant thrashing and a more sinister, slower death metal vibe. Whatever mod they cast though they are always loud, brash and chaotic!

Whether churning out huge crushing riffs, intense melodic passages or just ravenous speed freak drumming, Days of Loss are comfortable with all sounds and in places they add a little diversity with the aid of more sombre, even acoustic interludes as well as a little Scando-Melodeath influence here and there. Whatever style they use though, which ever influence they lean upon, Our Frail Existence is a remarkable album!
