This is a very sneaky little record if you ask me.
“Turin Turambar Dagnir Glaurunga” is it’s name and it hails from Italy of all places. Yet it is cunning and deceptive, just like it’s master, Emyn Muil… the epic black metal one man project of Saverio Giove. For despite hailing from Bari in Italy this record is Norwegian through and through! Listen to this record by accident and you’d swear this was a Burzum release, minus the Xenophobia, killing and ego!
Packaged in sublime rune laden artwork and with a heavily atmospheric folkish sound, the Burzum influence in actuality is only that, an influence. Vocally more adept in my opinion at adding an air of mystery and rawness to the sound, whether through execution or production I’m not sure.
Musically though this is a living beast, an evolving changing undulating mass or soaring melodies, dark vibes and cold tones. Better yet this is a gripping saga of an album and made even better by the fact that it’s a debut album! Great work!
