AMERICAN DEATH METAL
6/10 – JAROD LAWLEY
Hailing from Dallas, USA, Cleric emerge with their debut full length, Gratum Inferno. With skull-crushing riffs and grinding madness this isn’t easy listening, with sounds similar to Brujeria and very late 80s Napalm Death. This isn’t pure grindcore, certainly more death metal, but there are scathing elements to the sound that the death metal tag just doesn’t cover. The production is perfect for the musical style, energetic but precise, crunchy but clear; but unfortunately none of this is that important when the songs lack any character or memorability. The formula is here, but there’s no icing on the cake; potential for the future though.
