GERMAN DEATH METAL
7/10 – LUKE HAYHURST
Released through Rebirth the Metal Records comes the debut full length album from German death metal band Rotting Empire entitled “Sui Genaris”. Artistically the cover art while fairly impressive feels a little generic and cliched but of course the most important aspect is the music on offer and as the cold wind swept intro passes along hopes begin to rise for the bands debut offering.
Rise they should too as from the darkness rises a band who thick meaty sound really does demand that you listen too it. These German death dealers know exactly what they are doing from the deeply menacing growls of vocalist Danny Burns to the maniacal sounding riffs of Moritz Czingon and Ronny Wendler and of cause the drumming fury of Sebastian Schabenberger and pummeling bass rumble of Josef Landauer who is also in the band Breed of Scorn!
Whether Rotting Empire are treading the death metal line of outright brutality mixed of course with surging fast flowing guitar solos, or chugging away at a crawl and bringing a thick bleak fog into the proceedings, the band sound tight, well produced and very technically proficient, but more than that they create songs you’ll want to hear, want to wreck your necks too and bang your heads with! An impressive debut album indeed and more to come I don’t doubt!
