DEATH/DOOM METAL | SOUTH HOLLAND/ THE NETHERLANDS
RELEASED 27.01.2012 BY NAPALM RECORDS
It’s a full year on since Dutch Death Doomsters THE 11TH HOUR unveiled their sophomore studio release entitled ‘Lacrima Mortis’ which came complete with simple but eye catching (No pun intended) artwork. Sporting a melancholic blend of loss, sorrow and death The 11th Hour I can assure you are not here to brighten up our lives.
Melodic, heart felt and somber… The 11th Hour slip into gear and flow effortlessly into opening track ‘We All Die Alone’ whose sentiment I don’t overly agree with but whose sound and feel I can’t help but feel moved by. Mixing slightly accented clean vocals with the harsh growls more traditional in Death Doom Metal, The 11th Hour’s dual vocal approach is one of stark contrast to each other but works magnificently well. As things progress and the album delves further, winding its way through a deep dark jungle of bleak emotions and melodic tones The 11th Hour sound continues to undulate and spread further and further into the air creating a thick viscous dark soup of melancholic thought and intent, impenetrable from the outside so claustrophobic and oppressive the bands sound can be.
A very decent album then is ‘Lacrima Mortis’ from a band well and truly in touch with their emotions and their talent. [8/10 – LUKE HAYHURST]
