DEATH METAL | STOCKHOLM/OREBRO/ SWEDEN
RELEASED IN 2012 BY APOSTASY RECORDS
Overtorture, formed on October 22, 2011, is a Swedish Death Metal super-group put together by former members of Grave, Coldworker, Demonical, The Ugly and Witchery.
Now, in my world there are only two categories of Swedish metal bands: the fail category and the kick ass one where Overtorture not only that belongs in, it’s becoming a favorite really fast. As I always do when I find a sick band, my eyes popped out when I hit the first song, “Black Shrouds of Dementia”, those sick and disturbing riffs came in and put a frantic smile on my face.
Aggressive, very very tight and technical, these boys can develop a brutal face also, on “Murder for the masses” and “Towards the within”. There’s not a single aspect I would ask from this band to improve, everything is in it’s place, all songs are so raw, ground-shaking, savage and vibrant it really makes me curious how much damage they would do when performing live. And although there were not many long heavy growls, which I’m a sucker for, I believe Mr. Joel Fornbrant simply nailed it in every single song.
The precise changes of the rhythm and tempo make this album very complex, there’s a different approach on every song, they don’t like staying in the same place too much. In short these guys did one hell of a job and deserve all the credit for this masterpiece. As a matter of fact, this album is self-produced and as their very first material, “At the End the Dead await” is one of the best debut albums from the death metal scene I’ve ever listened to. It made a fan out of me! [10/10 – KEVIN ‘JUNK’ KIDD]
