This release right here could be an absolute treat in the making. Back in 2010 Extreminal Records released a four way split release featuring two bands from Turkey and another two from Indonesia. The release? ‘4 WAYS OF EASTERN BRUTALITY’ featuring from Indonesia CRANIAL SCHISM and REVER who both partake in Brutal Death Metal and from Turkey, REKTAL TUSE, a Grindcore outfit and last but not least MAKATTOPSY,  a Turkish Brutal Death/Grind band!

So here we go, four bands, two songs a piece and it’s Indonesian Brutal Death lords Cranial Schism that get things under way with a spoken word [Not in English so I have clue as to the contents] intro backed by howling winds before the band kick in full throttle with a solid blast of Brutal Death Metal maliciousness, featuring decent break downs, sturdy dependable musicianship and a vocal style that could kill from a thousand paces! Opening track ‘Konspirasi Monotheisme’ is a thoroughly blistering affair of unyielding extreme Metal that lacks any element of mercy and refuses to relent for anything but the songs conclusion. However when Cranial Schism break down the pace to a sinister malingering crawl and add in some technical guitar solos they really come alive! ‘Shitting on a Crucifix’ sounds as vile and depraved as you’d expect, and whilst the production for this track doesn’t sound as crisp as the previous track, nothing can subdue Cranial Schism or the battering that they unleash! [7]

Fellow Indonesian’s Rever kick off their quarter with ‘Understand Death Has No Use for Time’ which features a sickening rotten sound and unfortunately a drum machine, not a fan myself but the beats it lays out are sporadic, volatile and brutal! ‘Understand Death Has No Use for Time’ has a vocal style that sounds like a captured zombie being tortured before finally being shit though the head, you just cannot argue with this insane intensity of savagery! ‘You Killed Yourself’ is equally as maniacal and whilst over quickly and despite the use of a drum machine, this is pretty sick and impressive music taken to extremes! On to the Turkish half of proceedings now and Makattopsy hit home and hit hard with a pig squealing, gore soaked and deeply cadaveric sound that just demands you to challenge it! In places this is brutality at it’s most barbaric, repugnant and unrelenting as ‘Proctology Process’ winds along it’s own disturbing path! The hilariously entitled ‘Cockless’ features some movie audio clips as did the last track, standard Gore-Grind fare really, but once more the riff-age is ramped up and pure filth! In places there is a lack of bass and the quality suffers for it, but then all hell breaks loose and there apocalyptic blood drenched sounds return! [6]

For the finale, Turkish band Rektal Tuse take over with ‘Zile Basar Gibi’, a furthr education in brutal, no nonsense Grindcore that displays almost demonic vocals crossed with an outwardly aggressive sound, punishing and pummeling as it batters it’s short but effective way through to ‘Analitik Geometri’, another vitriolic slab of Grindcore extremity and perversion! Despite being probably the catchiest song on the whole release, that doesn’t stop Rektal Tuse from being vile, unashamed and seriously fucked up! [7]

A seriously good release this, demonstrating how things are done in the far flung reaches of the world. As it turns out, Asia much like with Horror films, knows a hell of a lot about making Extreme Metal too! [7/10 – LUKE HAYHURST]
