DEATH METAL | OLDENBURG/ GERMANY
RELEASED VIA APOSTASY RECORDS ON 14.09.2012
It is time for some experienced Death Metal madness in the form of German Metal quintet OBSCENITY who are now remarkably set to release their eighth full length opus, this time entitled “Atrophied in Anguish”. The band have been together now for twenty three years and although they have suffered many line up changes, what band hasn’t after being around for so long, they do still boast two of the bands original 1989 line up, namely Sascha Knust on drums and Hendrik Bruns on guitar. For the rest of the band, they are safe in the knowledge that they are contributing to part of what is fast becoming a Death Metal legacy!
So then on to “Atrophied in Anguish” then… a quick haunting swoop of an introduction and then into the brutality without much hesitation. It’s a basic uncomplicated layout for these German Metal bastards, straight to the face direct pummeling with a medley of intense riffs, damaging drumming and bass as well as harsh growling vocals through out. No frills, just balls out abusive Death Metal! Obscenity’s music is not what I’d call catchy but it’s definitely enjoyable! More melody is introduced in “All You Can Kill” with some excellent guitar solos and a shot of groove directly into the veins of the song!
Obscenity offer everything you could want from a tight, well executed Death Metal outfit. A furious bombast of aggressive riff-age and menacing vocals, the all out assault and barrage of a band who simply mean to destroy! “Atrophied in Anguish” is a polished and well produced piece of Death Metal skullduggery that feels dirty, filled with rage and plays host to a whole load of musical talent. If your keen on Death Metal and want something new then this should come towards to the top of your list! [7.5/10 – LUKE HAYHURST]
