Featuring striking art work and an intriguing album name, The Grotesquery, a Death Metal band spread across an ocean from Sweden to the United States have unleashed the gob-stopper album entitled “The Facts and Terrifying Testament of Mason Hamilton: Tsathoggua Tales”. Now if I have done my homework correctly, Tsathoggua is a fictional supernatural entity in the Cthulhu Mythos shared fictional universe, created by Clark Ashton Smith. Unfortunately I have no clue about Mason Hamilton.

What I do know though is that “The Facts and Terrifying Testament of Mason Hamilton: Tsathoggua Tales” is a superb Death Metal album, fast, frantic and with a hint of danger and menace! From start to finish this album is catchy but never drops its sinister veneer of out right brutality! Sinister is right too, The Grotesquery are evil in intent and the music they produce, especially the vocals of Master K. Lee who summons his own brand of devilish vocal barbarity straight from the depths of depravity!

Not content to be a straight up Death Metal band, The Grotesquery have a truly blackened sound with thundering riff-age, powerful snarling vocals, hateful and strange lyrics and a decent sense of song structure, although it should be said that there is not much variety to what the band produce. That though is a small flaw when compared with the sheer dominance of their pummeling music, displaying all the energy of a Death Metal thunderbolt! [8/10 – Luke Hayhurst]
